The Canfield Local School District Explains County Reappraisals and the Impact on Property Owners
(posted _____)

To keep our stakeholders informed, the Canfield Local School District shares the following link to the Mahoning County Auditor’s Office so individuals can review their property value reappraisals.

As a way to understand the 2023 Mahoning County Sexennial Reappraisal on tax bills, every six years, the county conducts a comprehensive reappraisal of all properties to determine their market value. The 2023 Sexennial Reappraisal has been completed and those bills are payable in 2024.  Many property owners realized changes in their property valuations, which directly influenced their tax bills. Depending on the results of the reappraisal, some residents saw an increase in their property taxes, while others realized  a decrease or no change at all. It is important to remember that just because your property values may have increased, taxes do not increase in direct proportion.  In addition, as property values increase, millage rates are adjusted down due to House Bill 920.  HB 920 was enacted in 1976 to keep inflation from increasing voted taxes.

Therefore, the CLSD will only collect the same voter-approved amount of funding. Only a small portion of our total millage (inside) is subject to inflationary increases.
