Canfield High School is participating in the Sandy Hook Promise program, “Start With Hello” during the week of Sept. 24-28th. This national violence prevention program grew out of the efforts of parents and others involved in the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary school. The program teaches students to watch out for anyone who is alone, reach out to help that person, and to start with a simple, “Hello.”
Student ambassadors from grades 10-12 kicked off the week by greeting students with a myriad of signs saying “hello” in many languages. This served as an introduction to the program, which was introduced to prime time mentorship groups. The ambassadors will follow up during the week by hosting a “Kindness Matters” bulletin board where they will post examples of students reaching out to others that they have witnessed during the week. In addition, special fun awards will be handed out to students caught in the act of being nice.
