Chemistry Olympics in Canfield

It’s an event unlike any other in Canfield as students are hoping for the Gold, in Chemistry! On December 19, 2018, from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and December 20, 2018, from 10:00 a.m - to 11:00 p.m. all of the chemistry classes will be participating in the 2nd Chemistry Olympics.  The chemistry students from the first semester have divided into teams of 4 and will compete in 7 different events designed to apply the concepts learned during their time in the courses.  The students are competing for medals in the individual events and an overall champion trophy.  The events were designed to allow any student that has completed our chemistry 1 course to be successful.  In fact, last years champion was a chemistry 1 team.  The seven events are:

1. Mystery problem

2. Slime Drop

3. Chemistry Music

4. Kinetics competition

5. Chemistry Cooler

6. Micromole rockets

7. Oxygen combustion competition

The materials and prizes for the competition are funded through a $1500 American Chemical Society Hach Grant.
