Canfield Student is Runner-up in 6th Congressional District Art Competition

Congressman Bill Johnson (R-Marietta) is pleased to announce that Summer Emory, a junior at Union Local High School in Belmont County, will represent his office in the United States Capitol as a winner in the 2017 Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery. Emory’s artwork, titled “Mr. Hoeffner,” was done on clayboard.

This year’s runner-up is an oil on fabric painting titled "Oh God" by junior Kate Jenkins of Canfield High School in Mahoning County.

“Thank you to all of the students who participated in this year’s art competition, and congratulations to Summer Emory, who has been selected as the winner from our district,” Bill Johnson said. “Again this year, I was amazed by the quality and imagination of the artwork we received; it is a credit to the art teachers at our local high schools.  I will be proud to see Miss Emory’s artwork hanging in the U.S. Capitol alongside the other winners from around the United States.”

Residents of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio will be able to view Miss Emory’s work while on guided tours of the Capitol building. The artwork of other finalists will be displayed in Representative Johnson’s Washington D.C. and district offices.
