Let the voting begin for Mobile Mania Day, an event, in Canfield High School's Physics Olympiad! The event is on November 2, 2017, in the Physics Lab from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Mobile Mania is a quest for balance--like a see saw. Stephen Hlaudy, teacher, says, “Students must build a mobile that freely hangs from the ceiling and has both translational and rotational equilibrium. That's a fancy physics way of saying it is balanced!”
The mobile entries must have a recognizable theme and proof page illustrating the mathematic quality of work. They are judged in the following categories: prettiest mobile, ugliest mobile, funniest mobile, most creative mobile, best balanced mobile, and Best of Show. Hlaudy adds, “The event has grown considerably over the years. After starting as a lab activity two decades ago, it has become something that both students and staff look forward to each year. Kids in physics go all out, trying to earn enough votes to win the event. On average we have over 1,000 votes cast.”
This is the 23rd year for this Canfield tradition.
