Mahoning County Educational Service Center was pleased to present a $500 Franklin B. Walter Scholarship to Max Lee, a senior at Canfield High School. Board President Richard S. Scarsella presented the check and certificate to Max at the Board Meeting on May 15.
The Franklin B. Walter Scholarship recognizes outstanding academic achievement through grades, test scores, involvement in activities and awards. Out of a dozen applicants, Lee and Southeast HS Senior Noah Fisher were selected to receive awards from the MCESC.
Lee is very involved at Canfield High with activities including tennis, debate, academic challenge, NHS, and Student Council. He founded a nonprofit organization called MyGateway Prep, which provides free ACT tutoring to students in Mahoning County as well as other states. He volunteers at Akron Children’s Hospital, Angels for Animals, and Shepherd of the Valley. Lee plans to attend Stanford University in the Fall and major in Public Policy.
